On the occasion of the total refurbishing of the concrete-slab sandwich construction from the seventies, the pupils and teachers at "gymnasium", the German secondary-school type which prepares for academic studies, expressed the desire that Hundertwasser assume the task of redesigning the school for 1500 pupils. Hundertwasser worked out the design free of charge, and architect Peter Pelikan drew the plans.

This school surrounded by a sea of so called rational buildings should be an oasis for humanity and nature, it should realize the creativity of the children, the longings of man for romanticism.
