This exhibition, recently at the Museum Belvedere in Vienna, presents the early and perhaps somewhat forgotten Hundertwasser.
The focus of the exhibition is on the influence of Japanese art and Far Eastern philosophy in Hundertwasser’s Early Work. In the 1950s, the Far East was considered a new sphere of reference for an open-minded approach to art. The meeting point of the young Japanese avant-garde was Paris, where Hundertwasser participated in the mutual exchange between Western and Far Eastern vanguards.
This exhibition therefore also clarifies Hundertwasser's relationship to the ideas of the Cobra movement.
